Burgeoning Lockdown Business.
An oil worker made redundant due to COVID has turned his passionate hobby, making handcrafted wooden creations, into a blossoming business. Like many others this year, offshore worker Tom Hynd found himself out of work but quickly turned things around by setting up Tom’s Oak Designs.
The business, selling cabinets made out of whisky barrels, oak coat hooks and wine caddies, had a busy first month on the run-up to Christmas with many buying his products as Christmas gifts.
Tom from Inverbervie said: “After I lost my job, I found it impossible to secure job interviews. The job market is saturated with people in the same position. I decided that it was time to move my hobby to the next stage and set up Tom’s Oak Designs. I’ve been delighted with the interest in my products and the sales we’ve secured in the first month, and look forward to seeing what 2021 brings.”
